Most Americans aren’t familiar with the life-changing work of rehabilitation counselors until they need one

Often called the “marine corps” of the human services field, rehab professionals meld technology, practical knowledge, resourcefulness and compassion to help more than one million individuals with disabilities annually. Nearly one in seven families in the U.S. will be affected when one of its members experiences injury or illness that requires extensive rehabilitation. The path towards recovery involves an array of medical specialties, therapy, and finding workable solutions to a suddenly altered life.

The Rehabilitation Counseling Profession is based on service

Core values of trust, integrity, transparency, and commitment are the norm in this profession. Why don’t you join us?

Currently there are about 141,000 rehabilitation counselors nationwide. That is not enough. Many more are needed as medical and technological
advances help more and more Americans
live longer, veterans from wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan return, and older Americans either
return to work or delay retirement indefinitely.
Employment Possibilities
RCEA members are employed in private practice,
by community health organizations and hospitals,
colleges and universities, and in state and federal
government positions. Few professions offer as
much diversity as rehabilitation counseling does.
Opportunities for challenging and fulfilling work
also exist in forensics, government, community
colleges, and school systems.
